I have this problem every day. Usually about 1-2 pm it starts. By the time I leave work my stomach is twice the size and am in pain. I think maybe its because I am standing all day. On my days off this does not happen because I can sit or lay and have access to the bathroom. it doesn't matter if I eat or don't eat - It still happens
6 years out from surgery and I still have this problem from time to time. It's more a nuisance than anything else, and I tend to make light of it these days. The noise tends to come mainly from around the old stoma site. The most likely explanation, at least in my case, is that it's adhesions (I've been told I have them), and in that sense there isn't much I can do about it. I've asked both my surgeon and GI and none of them seem at all concerned; seemingly it's more the norm than the exception, based on the reactions I've received.

In my case it's not a constant problem, nor does it seem to be specifically triggered by any food. Some days my guts are very quiet, other days they can be heard clear across the room. Excess gas makes it worse, so if you can cut down on gas producing foods (it's different for every person so you would have to determine your own triggers) you might be able to reduce it. Another suggestion is to take probiotics, which will, over time, help with gas and might in turn help cut down on noise. I have been talking Align for about 6 months now, after previously rotating several different probiotics for a few years, and I'm pretty happy with the results -- overall I definitely have less gas since I've been taking it.
