Has anyone experienced losing hair on head face body and even eyebrows and eyelashes and also pubic hair. This started to happen before my stage 1 & 2 for my J pouch but really took off after last surgury.Loss of all hair is known as Alopecia Universis thought to be caused by stress and or the autoimmune system kind of what we all go through my question has anyone been succesfull in getting there hair to grow back. From what I understand it is possible with alopecia Areato ( loss of the hair on your head) but not with Alopecia Univeris (loss of all hair)

So sorry Rick...not fair at all...it seems that just when things couldn't get worse, they kind of do...
I had major hair loss although I only lost it on my head, possibly the pubic hair a bit too (didn't really grow back after being shaved down there)...the hair on my head did return each time with a little nurturing from hyper nutrition(mega minerals, vits and an assortment of homeopathic stuff), massage with H&S shampoo (used it 'down there' too) and yoga (head down positions)...at one time I went to a Chinese naturopathic doctor and he gave me a mix of herbs, roots, horns, worms, insects etc that I had to boil for 20 mins and drink daily (stunk up the house horribly...hubby came home to ask, 'who died and was burried under the floor boards?') but it seemed to work to the point where a bald friend started taking it and got significant regrowth...But all of this is still 'head only'...no idea for full body...
I am wondering if Chinese sciences like homeopathy, acupunture etc could help with this...I know that our Occidental medicine really doesn't deal with it very well...
That's all I've got...maybe others on the board will be able to help...I hope so.

Rick,
this may seem to be coming out of left filed, but have you tried taking folic acid as a supplement?
I have seen positive results using this. It certainly could not hurt.

Rick,
I have been losing hair since my surgery (only on my head) and have attributed it to the antibiotics, canasa and now pentasa, in addition to menopause. I have always lost a lot of hair throughout the years though with UC and thankfully had a very full head so it was never noticeable.....but no longer.
I do think some of it could be autoimmune related. Ask them to check you blood counts and iron levels. I was very anemic prior to surgery which also contributed to my issues. As Solomin said, up the folic acid and consider iron supplements (only after getting doctor's ok first) as well as biotin supplements.

Hi Rick,
I had my pouch done 20 years ago and I have Crohn's. I have had hair loss many times over the years when I have been very ill. This past year my hair was falling out at a pretty fast pace and I was not not bleeding (just tired, weak and hair loss). This was very rare for me as the only time I had lost my hair was when I was very ill. I went to the doc and he found I had a folic acid deficiency. I have been on folic acid supplements and my hair is starting to get fuller and less hair is falling out. I am starting to get more energy too.
It took a while for the deficiency to show up in the bloodwork. I was feeling tired and my hair was falling out for quite some time before the deficiency showed up in the blookwork.

Thanks for the advice, also found out for loss on head, onion juice. Only two days into this, takes at least two weeks for any results.
I lost hair after each surgery too. The worst was losing patches of my eyebrows and waking up to a pillow covered in hair. Five months later and it has all grown back in, even my eyebrows. I do take liquid vitamins including folic acid.
During my worst colitis flare up when I still had my colon, I had to spend a week in the hospital. They were having a very hard time getting an IV in my arms because of my dehydration and poor health, so they started shaving parts of my arms thinking it would help them find the veins. Those shaved spots stayed mostly bald for several months until my body finally started recovering. The hair on my head had also gotten pretty thin at that time, but I don't remember noticing anything else with body hair.
Question, Rick, do you drink the onion juice or apply it topically?

You use a juicer or blender and apply to top of head. This is on U-tube lots of info on internet, I have not been doing it long enough to tell if its working yet.
Becareful if you go out golfing on a warm day and your head sweats it will run down and burn your eyes. I once heard if you mixed vodka and red pepper let it set for a few days then rub it on your head it will grow hair so I did it on my husband he went golfing started to perspire and it ran down and burned his eyes.
