Hi, I recently had a serious allergic reaction to Remicade after being off of it for 9 months while I was pregnant (my negligent doctor failed to realize that stopping and starting Remicade could cause you body to develop an allergic reaction to the mouse protein). As I am pretty much out of options, I'm being forced to consider J-pouch surgery. I am looking for surgeon recommendations from people who have had successful J-pouch operations, as a good surgeon seems to make all the difference is long-term success. I am terrified of the possibility of getting stuck with a permanent bag. I am in South Carolina, but I will travel for surgery. I have heard great things about the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and Cleveland Clinic, but I also know it has less to do with the facility and more to do with the number of operations successfully performed. Also, if anyone has suggestions for pertinent questions I should ask during the surgeon interview, I am all ears! It seems sometimes after the fact, you realize what you should have asked. (for example I asked my dr and did research on whether or not Remicade was safe during pregnancy not realizing I should have been researching what happens if you start and restart.)
Thank you!
