looking for new doctor for a second opinion

Mikey I'm from NJ.  We were seeing people at Robert Wood Johnson, but our situation has just gotten really dier.  I dont know where you presently being treated, but we are going to see some people at Weill Cornell medical,center over on York.  the GI people we are going to see dr. Bosworth and the surgeon we are going to see is Dr. Shukla.  I have not met these people yet, but have appointments over there on June 17.  I have heard good things about their IBD center.  If anyone here has seen or heard of these people please jump in and give me some insight as well.  

 

Let et me know how you make out.  I'm curious to know who you are seeing as I may need a plan B.  You never know.  My some has some extremely serious complications stemming from having UC so that is why we are changing doctors, as RWJ has done all they can do for us.  It's too bad because they do have a good IBD department.

CAS, they were great for us too. I only use the med school doctors but unfortunately my son's issues are beyond their expertise.  Who did you use over there?

What hospital is your current GI associated with?  There is supposed to be a new doctor from Conn that moved to Mt Sinai to start a Pouchitis Clinic.

I was treated by Dr. Das- I believe he is head of the clinic. You need to see him. I moved out of state and am now bring treated at Hershey Medical Center. 

Dr Scherl at Cornel

Dr Bosworth is a good second choice. He was trained by Dr Scherl. My kids have used him. He is very nice and patient. I don't know your surgeon. He must be someone new. I have used Milsom but I'm sure he is good otherwise Milsom would. OT have hired him.

Allycat, dr.Milsom is no longer accepting insurance and doing mostly research from what I understand.  Bosworth was recommended by the transplant dr. And as well as someone else.  I never heard of Scherl.  I'm not sure if he is still there, or he might be at Columbia Pres.  I think Bosworth is high up on the food chain now.  I forget.  My head is swimming.  I've had a headache for a week and have spent the last 24 hours crying my eyes out.  I keep focusing on the worst.  Im a realist and I know that PSC can be deadly.  And I keep thinking I can not watch my baby die.  I can't watch him go through chemo or a transplant. I have a pharmaceutical background so I know the drill.  My head is in a bad place right now.  But some how I will come to terms with is horrible diagnosis.  I just need some answers and as we get set up at Cornell, I'm sure that they will come.

KS, my current surgeon is Craig Rezac at Robert Wood.  The new doctor that we have not seen yet is dr. Shukla.  We are seeing him next week.  And then in the afternoon we are seeing Dr. Bosworth.  Both are at Weill-Cornell.

 

 

My question about which Hospital was to the OP(Mikeey).

 

I have seen Dr. Shukla a few times before when he was covering rounds for my surgeon...see my previous post.  I thought Dr. Shukla was a really nice guy.

My surgeon was Dr. Michelassi; he is the Chief Surgeon for NYP Cornell.  He does take some insurances.

 

Aren't most cases of PSC slow moving?  Like many years or even decades before needing a transplant?  Is your son on Urso?

Mikeey, any one with Dr Presents group would be a good choice.

Mikeey, I've been through them all unfortunately. Seeing my GI tomorrow. I hate going into the city!

The last I knew (a few years ago) was that Dr. Present didn't accept insurance and was $700 an office visit.

I was at Cornel yesterday. The ride in was awful. Came from upstate NY. Had a scope, pouchitis. Tired of all this.

Im sorry I know your son has it worse.

There r other doctors in Dr Presents office that take insurance  believe. Call the office. Anyone with that group would be good. I don't think Dr Present takes new patients anyone He's gotten up their in age.

Allycat, I hope you are feeling better after yesterday's procedure.  I just ran over to Dr. Browns office to drop off films and medical reports.  I had to be in the city anyway.  OMG!  What a day.  I started out at Penn Station.  From there took 3 subways to get to Lexington.  Then had to walk from 68th and Lexington, all the way to York!  Then I had to get over to the upper West Side!  I couldn't figure out how to get the m66 bus which would have went cross town and across the park.  Couldn't find the bus going west, only east.  So back on the subway!  It was hot hot hot!  I'm not complaining, I love summer.  I was exhausted by the time I got back to NJ at 11:00 p.m.  My feet are still killing me!  Going back in on Wed to see Dr. Bosworth and Dr. Shukla.  We are going to get this all figured out!

Dianne- I live on the west side and the buses that go east are on West 86th street off of Broadway and West 96th street off of broadway, don't know the numbers but I take them when I need to go to the east side. I really don't do well with public buses and subways.
