Hi. I've had my pouch for 16 years now. My original surgeon has retired. I've seen several others. One I didn't care for at all. Another said I should be seeing a gastroenterologist for continued care. My first gastroenterologist ( whom I really liked) referred me to a new colorectal surgeon. Now I have new Insurance. Help. Anybody in the Baltimore, Maryland area that has a good Doc they could recommend? Don't know if I should seek a gastro or surgeon for care.

If you don't need surgery, look for a gastroenterologist. My GI (in Towson) isn't taking new patients, but there are some very knowledgable GIs at Hopkins. My GI calls one of them when he has questions. If you have a primary care doc, ask them if they can find out which GIs at Hopkins really know J-pouches. If not you could call the gastroenterology department there and ask the same question.
Thanks Scott. I am very close to Towson. I will absolutely call and inquire. I do want/need someone with knowledge of Jpouches. Out of curiosity, who is your GI?
My GI is Peter Belitsos at Greenspring Station.
That's who my husband has seen for routine colonoscopies over the years. I started with John Covington in 1997. He's great and I really like him, but think I need someone who has more knowledge of Jpouches. I'll be making some phone calls. Thanks again.
Dr. Belitsos could probably suggest someone at Hopkins. Call his office?
