I recently picked up a prescription of lomotil in an effort to slow down my output. My doc suggested it may be something I need to take indefinitely. I haven't found a ton of information on it just yet and thought it wise to consult actual users on this board.

My questions:
Is anyone using lomotil as an everyday drug?
Any issues, concerns about longterm use?
Any advice based upon your experience using the drug?

So far it appears to be working pretty well (I am currently taking 2/day - although I was told to take 3/day). I guess I'm just hoping for reassurance that it is OK for indefinite use and won't cause me to mutate into a potted plant or something.

It's safe. I use Imodium, though. They are pretty similar, in that they are based on the morphine molecule, having the GI slowing effect of opiates, without the "head" effects and addictive potential. Lomotil also has a small amount of atropine in it to prvent abuse. This means that if you take too high of a dose or are very sensitive, you may get palpitations, dry mouth, and anxiety.

Other than that, no problemo.

Thank you for your replies - they have been very helpful.

While the lomotil works quite well for me, it also drains me of all energy. Since starting the drug I have been unable to complete my usual 5K run. At about the midway point I feel like laying down in a ditch to take a nap - not good. And this after only taking 1 pill per day!

Did any of you experience fatigue while taking lomotil? and did it pass with time?
Yes, it did. My surgeon wouldn't prescribe it after a few months and made me switch to Loperamide (Immodium) because it was a narcotic. I get the Loperamide prescribed by my surgeon because there is a type that isn't tablet that the pharmacy has, it's a capsule and I get 240 at a time. The tablet must have gone through me too quickly because it really didn't work. I usually take two capsules a day (one in the morning and one at night) and don't feel fatigued at all.
