Hello!  I'm going in next week to have my first seton placed as the first step in dealing with a fistula.  Any advice or words of wisdom on what I should expect (pain, recovery, day to day, sex...)?

I've done a search on the boards and found some very helpful information but anything you can share from your own experience would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

I know this is just a first step in the process and won't be a cure.  At this point I'm thinking my "ideal" would be living with a seton long term (if it's possible and bearable) vs going through other intensive surgical options.

I had a seton for 11 months.  I found it to be really sore for the first 3 weeks requiring Tramacet for the pain.  After that it became just annoying.  I always wore a pad as the drainage was constant.  Not a lot but always there.  A sitz bath became my best friend for keeping clean.  I returned to work once I stopped taking Tramacet and could manage on Tylenol and Advil.  (I’m a critical care pediatric nurse).

i travelled, swam in pools and the ocean, and got on with this journey called life.
