Life insurance underwriting seems to be neither rational nor intelligent. They treat anything they don't completely understand as a reason to deny rather than a reason to better understand the mortality risk. IBD has very little impact on mortality, particularly if the colon is removed, but I hold out very little hope of persuading the insurance underwriters of that - I've given up. I have taken advantage of life insurance whenever it doesn't require medical underwriting (e.g. through work).
