Went to see a plastic surgeon today before I have the pouch removed. He looked at my stomach and told me there was no tissue healthy enough to take to fill the anal cavity. He then tells me that my next option is the two muscles in each thigh that are primarily not used. My question is, how will this affect me mobility wise in the gym? I should have asked this when I was there but, it didn't even cross my mind until now. I know there's a few people here with the pouch removed  but, wasn't sure of they had to have a similar approach taken.

This is the first time I have heard about using leg muscles to fill the space when a J pouch is removed.  My J pouch was removed four years ago and a BCIR created.  My surgeon did nothing like muscle relocation to fill the space formerly occupied by my J pouch.  I am able to do all of the physical activities I enjoy, including lifting of heavy objects, skiing, kayaking and biking with no problems.  I would ask the surgeon who will be removing your J pouch why relocation of muscle or other tissue is necessary.  If you question the response or still feel uncomfortable about it, I would get a second opinion.

I had 2 gracillis muscle transplants (some call them muscle flap surgery) done for anal reconstruction...3yrs apart...the surgery was very, very painful...The muscle is, if I am not wrong, the longest one in the leg...it is an aducter...used to pull the legs together...At first I had no bad side effects other than the obvious...pain, difficulty walking, swelling etc...

I had difficulty skiing after that and had to give up a few sports but not all of them...I reinforced the other muscles over time with weight trainning, walking, climbing and swimming.

Now, over 40yrs later, I have some knee pain (could also be from a fall that I took this summer), maybe a little less stability in the lower limbs...

I think that the big thing is the PT post op, doing all of the exercises and taking your time with the healing.

I assume that it is the same sort of surgery...reassigning a muscle so it will probably be have some similar side effects.

Can't they use a sillicon baloon? An implant? Why do you need one? (then again if you are a woman you may need it to keep your girly parts in place)
