Leaking again!

Hey gang,

Remember I told you that about two weeks ago I awoke covered in poop because my valve leaked all over me and my bed, thinking it was isolated, and due to a food particle stuck, opening the valve? Well, this morning I get up, and while I'm brushing my teeth I hear and feel farting coming out of my stoma, the valve opened itself, again! When I intubated, almost nothing came out, having emptied it only three hours previously. So, it leaves me to wonder, is my valve defective? It's not suppose to leak, even with pressure inside, is it? It's starting to worry me, I hate the idea of it leaking more. Has this happened to you more then once! If so, did you need surgery to fix it? Let me know, thanks!

When I had my first Koch pouch it was fine for the first four years & then it started to make farting sounds. This was then followed months later by fecal matter coming out. At first I was given drugs to take in case it was pouchitis, but unfortunately it wasn't. It turned out my pouch had fallen off of my abdominal wall. I had several more surgeries after that & then the farting started again. I ended up getting my first Koch pouch removed & am now on my second Koch pouch. Definitely get in to see Dr. Cohen as soon as you can. Don't want to scare you, but you asked if anyone else had gone through the farting thing. Will really hope that maybe you just have a case of pouchitis.

It happened again!!!!!! Thankfully, my bandage contained most of it, but as soon as I removed it, out come the flood gates! This is getting very annoying and VERY frustrating, pardon the pun, but I'm sick of this crap! Today, I turn 44, and I'm no better off then I was years ago! (Not looking for attention, I always feel a bit depressed on my birthday, this isn't helping). I'm going to see dr Cohen on Monday, one way or another, this has to be resolved, I can't live like this forever :-(

You vent as much as you like, that is what we are here for. I'm praying for the least amount of interaction from the Doctor. So sorry sweetie, that you are dealing with this! Please keep us posted.....Happy Birthday and keep up with the humor that you are so good at. I remember years ago, you came to one of my posts to cheer me up.....will never forget that! Prayers! Always here to listen and help if I can! Hugs

I'm sorry Eric. Remember Tiffany had same issues with KP from Dr Cohen. She had it revised and it still leaked so she had it converted back to perm ostomy. I know that is not what you want to hear or have, but your health is the most important. You have a great relationship and otherwise happy life right? Why go through all this over and over.

I understand, beleive me. But, unless you can get to the CC in the states, I'm not convinced Dr Cohen should attempt it again as you have gone through enough.
