2 ideas:
- You could thicken up the stool by taking a little psyllium powder (plus the recommended amount of water) with your meals. I have noticed that this makes my guts happier in general.
- Check out pelvic floor exercises. They get weaker as we age, especially if we have compromised them through abdominal surgery and/or birthing babies. There are all sorts of pelvic floor exercise ideas on the web.
This could well be pouchitis. If that’s the case then a course (10-14 days) of Cipro or Flagyl would likely clear it up promptly.
I have had those symptoms and they went away with rest and probiotics and eating very carefully for a few days.
Please bear this in mind: I'm not much of an antibiotic user. I would use them if I felt like it was necessary, like, as a last resort. I'm not sure this is the best approach, but it is my approach.
Because pouchitis can develop so slowly, over months and months, we can become accustomed to the symptoms, essentially normalizing genuine disability. When Cipro alone stopped working for me I didn’t register what was happening, and gradually got to the point where soiling the sheets and my underwear was routine. Now I can’t believe I lived that way for so long.
Thanks! I go see the gi on friday for a checkup..will see if its pouchitis
Little update - got cipro n flagyl...been about 5 days and things are going well. Seems i can hold it alot better and the leaking has subsided to the occasional trikle...guessing it was pouchitis afterall..
I'm glad you are finding some relief!
