I have been dealing with severe butt burn. I have an appt with my doc tomorrow bc I’m on the fence as to whether it’s a fissure- it feels like glass coming out sometimes and I’ve been in tears.

Most of the time, however it’s because stool has leaked out an hour or so after going to the bathroom. I use the bidet, wipe, use barrier cream and within an hour I can feel it burning. I go into the bathroom and wipe and there is stool on the toilet paper. Not a lot, but enough to cause some major irritation. Then I’m left battling the sore, burnt skin the rest of the day. I try and soak it in a sitz bath and that helps a little, but work full time and I have a 5 year old- I don’t have time to do it but once after she goes to bed! Once the burn starts it hurts to walk or sit- it gets so sore.

So I’m wondering if it’s a leakage problem rather than a “not wiping good enough” problem.

I’m hoping my doc could shed some light on things. Any thoughts? Anyone had a similar experience? FYI, I’m 8 years post takedown surgery and everything is fine otherwise. I’m on a maintenance dose of 250 mg of flagyl daily for pouchitis and it’s under control. Had a scope last Oct and it looked great. (Shrugs)

I am also part of the butt burn club. I use the bidet as much as possible.

I’ve had a very slight leakage since day one, and surgeon told me I would have to live with it.

My daily routine includes a cotton ball btw my cheeks (others have used a gauze pad for larger discharges) at all times, since I do not  know when it will occur.

Without the above the burning and itching  can become unbearable.

I could try the cotton ball idea, but I think I’d feel weird with it there? Idk. Prob worth trying. Doc says to increase colestipol to 6 per day (max dose) and I did that today and it cut my trips to the bathroom down a lot. He suggested I continue with my current regime but didn’t have any other suggestions, just told me that the bile can be indeed just really acidic. He suggested I call my surgeon- maybe they might have suggestions. I feel like it’s not surgical though. Thoughts on if they can help?
