Hi all - I am new here. I have had UC for 30+ years, and for the last 2 years my colonoscopies have shown abnormal cells of various sorts. So I have been scoped every 6 months, and the latest scoping showed a stricture. On the advice of my GI, the GI team at local teaching hospital and my oncologist, I am headed toward surgery.
My UC is well under control; I am on Lialda and Humira.
The surgeon told me he does "only" laparoscopic surgeries, and I should expect to be in the hospital for 4-5 days for the first step, then about 7 weeks later, the take-down.
I know recovery times vary a LOT, but I would be interested in knowing how soon some of you were able to get back to work. Half of my work is desk work, writing and phone calls; the other half involves visiting and making presentations. I am thinking I will get back to the first a lot sooner than the second of those.. but what do I tell my employer? Weeks? Months? Any advice?
