every single drug im on has lactose as a filler and im very lactose intolerant but a lot of sites say its not enough to cause problems. thing is every night i have gassy hot bubbly diarrhea when eating nothing but thickening foods and taking the max dose of imodium which btw has lactose in it! sobs. sure seems like my meds may be a culprit in my hot bubbly gassy nightly diarrhea. give it to me my j-pouch peeps. im going to cold turkey my lactose laced cocktail and try pepto and only thickening foods. anything is better than this. throw some knowledge my way please...

Hi Tom,
Yes, the amount of lactose in most meds is really minimum but you could very well be the exception to the rule and not be lactose intollerant but allergic...and therefore much more sensitive to it than most...I have been food experimenting lately and have made an unusual discovery on thickening foods...to my great distress (I have a k pouch and do not want my stool thick!)....dates. The dried fruit thickens me right up...not a good thing for me but it may help you....I eat about 4-6 of them during the day and suddenly everything is thick so you may want to try it...try to get them in a boutique type grocery store or health food store so that they are fresher then those in tiny little packets of 12...
hope this helps

Tom, did you you see my suggestion in your other thread of taking these meds with lactase tablets, just as you would with dairy? If lactose is your problem, that would take care of it. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to lactose, only milk (casein)itself. Allergies are usually protein based, and lactose is a sugar. The intolerance is due to a lack of the enzyme lactase.
