After many yrs with an ileostomy and initially being told it was for life, I've been offered J pouch creation at St Marks.
Although I've disliked the ileostomy since day one and longed for the day when I would not need it; due to the risk in regard to erectile disfunction, its been a difficult decision to make.
However, my J pouch surgery is due soon and although the initial op which created the ileostomy was by open surgery, I assumed my J Pouch surgery, due to new techniques, would be by keyhole surgery.
I discovered my Surgeon does not perform keyhole surgery and should I request it, my operation date will be postponed, maybe until next year.
I already have the scar, the thought of another incision to heal, taking years to look like my current scar has created doubts.
All my research, quoted percentages of failure and risk of erectile disfunction etc, I guess has all been based on open surgery rather than keyhole surgery.
I've done many months of research before I reached my decision, psyched myself up for surgery and now this.
