A friend of mine just participated in the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim -- a counter-clockwise swim of 28.5 miles. I manned my kayak providing emotional support, food & drink and constant course guidance. For me, a j-poucher for almost 28 years, the largest challenge was going to be NOT having a bowel movement for 8 hours. I have not gone that long since Reagan's first term.

My plan -- the night before, no drinking and a simple meal of chicken and rice with a couple of immodium. The day of ... no coffee and then just a banana, a lot of gatorade and 2 bars.

Rick finished 4th out of 18 and I went 8+ hours without a bowel movement. Oh, and the kayaking was fun too.

Never settle.

Impressive! Your system rose to the challenge, since there are no bathrooms in a kayak.

When my colitis was active, my wife and I took a three hour kayak tour of some marshes on Amelia Island in Florida. I was scared to death, but did the three hours in good shape. If the worst had happened, I guess I would have done some swimming. Yuck. Once back at the pier, I made a bee-line for the porta-potty.
