From what I've seen on the internet, some continent ostomy stomas look like flatter versions of a typical ileostomy stoma and some look more like a slit in the skin. Is this one of the differences between the Kock pouch and the BCIR? Or is it just a difference in the surgeon's technique? The surgeon I met with told me there wasn't much of a difference between the pouches, just that the valves were slightly different but they worked the same. I'm curious to hear what people who actually live with a pouch think though.

Mine looks like a tiny, pink bellybutton and I keep it covered with a folded Kleenex or a band-aid that is flesh-tone. I don,t think that in the long run that it really matters because it is always covered and it does not effect function...as long as the tube goes in without pain or discomfort and you are comfortable with it. As for the pouch, they are all the same, it is in fact the valve that differs in the fact that the Bcir ones have a living collar and the k pouches originally didn't but do now if the surgeon knows how to do it and chooses to...
hope that this helps
