Hello,
I just had my reversal 4 days ago after 3 months and now have a working J-pouch. Everything is going well except I'm very sore near my rectum when I have bowel movements. I was not given any meds nor advice about this when I was released from the hospital. Any ointments/creams or suggestions people have to alleviate the burning/pain? Thanks so much.

Hello Sburr17,

I would suggest ordering some calmoseptine through an online pharmacy. It is AMAZING! I still use it from time to time myself. I use a q-tip to apply it for cleanliness, but it comes in a tube so you can certainly use a finger. Another good tip is to by charmin ultrasoft or ultra strong tp as it seems to be the gentlest out there. I splurged and got a Coco bidet for the house but a sitz bath or bidet bottle by the toilet is nice for those uncomfortable days. At night if you place some calmoseptine on a cottonball and place it between your "cheeks" it helps sooth sore skin. Let me know if you any questions and I will gladly answer them. I am 1 yr out from my colectomy and 9 months post takedown. I also live in MA, I see you do as well. Good luck!!
Calmoseptine is good to protect the skin in and around the anus due to multiple bathroom trips and wiping so often but it is not going to help with the rectal soreness or tailbone pain you might be experiencing. What did they give you for pain? This pain is going to be from gas pressure or just gravity pull of any waste you have sitting in your pouch. For temporary relief I usually take a bath with Epsom salt or sit on a heating pad but this isnt going to diminish the pain completely. If the pain is unbearable you should talk to your doc about pain relief. Good luck.
