Just had lots of trouble after eating a salad.

I am 7 plus months after takedown btw

I'm almost seven years into the my reversal and I still find it difficult to eat raw fresh veggies without being bloated for long hours at a time. but for some, they cant eat with no probs ... lol

as for obstruction, I never had it. so I couldn't tell you what it feels like .. 

I have a J pouch for 25 years and have  no problem whatsoever with salads and eat a big chopped salad for lunch every day. IMHO it's very individual as to what foods can or cannot be tolerated. I can pretty much eat anything and drink anything except red wine (the tannins in it seem to be a problem for me). Salads and fiber are important because if there is stasis of digested food in the intestinal tract, that's what leads to bacterial overgrowth and BO can lead to inflammation. This is or should be common sense to every person who had any kind of IBD. Obviously, some foods will not be tolerated in some people but one must find a good combination of things that work and balance in the diet. 

Posting 7 months after takedown or even 1 year, things can still change. I think you give it 2 years and then things are likely set as to how they will be for the most part.

Thanks all, guess it sucks that it takes this long for things to get set but we did get a rectum made for us so it's to be expected. 

Start slowly with small amounts.  It takes time for our bodies to adjust and what you can't eat now but be no issues in the future.

Its a hit and miss sort of thing with me...Sometimes it goes through easily and sometimes it blocks up everything...I have found no rhyme or reason for the whats and whys...This weekend I made myself a pound of caramel walnut fudge and at it all (rolled in walnuts) and had no problems, other times 2 walnuts and I am cooked.

Chew a lot, stick to soft food for a while after any irritation or semi-blockage...

Be kind to yourself and don't overdo it for a while (chicken soup is my go-to friend in these circumstances)

2 decades in and raw, fresh veggies/salad cause me issues-not exactly like you indicated, but they go through me fast and lead to very watery stools (with lots of undigested bits). Too bad because so love them. I still eat them but have learned to pair them with a carb and maybe also a protein as with a balanced meal (rather than exclusively raw veggies) I don't have trouble (lthoigh still see the I digested bits later!).
