Just had a 1 step revision J-pouch surgery at Cleveland Clinic

What did the surgeon tell you to expect. They should talk to you afterwards so you know what your future is going to look like. It baffles me that a lot of people ask questions on here because they aren't educated by their Drs. These are honestly questions that should be answered by a professional.

They say it should go well. Ha. Im asking because im looking for advice from someone who has had a 1 step revision

The problem is that revision is sort of a vague term, surgically. It could mean any number of things were done, because basically it just means that they repaired, adjusted, reduced, advanced, supported, etc. It all depends on what was wrong with your pouch.

I think the obvious answer is that whatever was done, it was either minor enough to not require a diverting ileostomy, or conditions were perfect in there to not need one (tissues in great shape, no tension on the suture lines, no steroids on board, that sort of thing).

So, unless they messed around with your sphincters, you should not have any issues with incontinence, serious anal pain, etc. I would believe them.

i had 4 places jan where it was built wrong, kinked, twisted or "lazy" ,,he took those 4 places and fixed them. Basically using all of the existing pouch. I came in healthy and strong , and no disease could be found or inflamattion

who was your doctor? Cleveland Clinic does not do 1 step procedures so it must have been a simple repair??

they obviously must do one step bc they did. it wasnt a simple repair. the j pouch had anatomical issues only, and the skin was pristine so he found no reason for an ostomy

This does not sound like it was a full pouch reconstruction, just a repair, simple or not, so it seems appropriate to me. A lot of this stuff falls to judgement calls at the time ofthe surgery. There seldom is an "always or never" rule. This is where having experienced surgeons pays off. They know what conditions are right for omitting the ileostomy, which has its own set of risks.

dr church. it was revision moreso than reconstruction
