Hi Annie,
My first question would be why? Why do you need a detox. Most people do it to clean out their colons...since we don't have one it is often anti-intuitive...meaning that it doesn't help us the way that we think it will.
Next, yes it can help remove toxins from out tissues like too much salt but it can also dehydrate us, cause electrolyte imbalances etc.
I would be very careful.
I love detoxes and fasts, I've been doing them most of my life (since about age 10...my mom was very into them...sometimes dangerously so)...but being a poucher means that our systems empty themselves out quite nicely on a daily basis and that we do not need long fasts of detoxes to obtain the same result...I use fruit and fruit juice every morning to clear out my system every day...It may be too rough on some people's systems but is works for me...if I still feel bloated or like I have overdone it I prolong with vegetable juices (used to do the homemade juicer route, now I use the water from steaming my veggies...it is milder on my pouch).
Whatever you do, make sure that you do not throw your body into imbalance...if you start feeling weak-kneed, dizzy, get palpitations, sweats, trembling or shaking...please, take in some salt! We think that we are super-women but our bodies are human and require a bit of extra love.
Happy 2017

You should be fine. But like Sharon, I'd be more concerned about getting enough nutrients than the effect on the pouch. My pouch is always fine with a fast or liquid diet.
Personally, I don't believe in the notion of "detoxing," as there is no objective benefit to it. But, fasting as part of a mind/body thing makes some sense. Regardless, no harm in it as long as you stay hydrated.

Maybe I'm just imagining things but I used to drink a protein shake every morning prior to eating breakfast but I found once I got a J pouch that drinking extra liquids (even in the form of food) increases my frequency significantly which leads to other problems such as cramping of the muscles needed to empty my pouch or rashes from having to wipe more often.
One another note this kind of brings up something else I've experienced...ive always been an avid breakfast eater since we all know how important breakfast is but skipping breakfast or keeping it very light tends to keep me way more comfortable throughout the day when it comes tommy J pouch. It's like the J pouch forces less healthy eating habits on me (not to mention less greens and fruit). Does everyone kind of agree with this or am I imagining things?
J Moons,
I was not much of a breakfast eater prior to my k pouch...eating prior to leaving my house was not a great idea back then...and since then breakfast has not improved.
I stick to fluids in the mornings, up until noon...once my pouch is completely empty I feel comfortable (safe?) putting more food into it.
So fasting or juicing doesn't scare me...I do understand that j pouches and k pouches have very different needs.
J pouches need thicker output and k pouches need thin output...so for you guys, the ingestion of too much fluid can compromise the comfortable functioning of your pouches leading to over-liquidy stool or worse.
For k pouchers it is the best case scenario.
I guess that we are all different with different needs...whatever works best for you.

I do things a little differently. Firstly Im not trying to detox, im trying to nourish. A body that is well fed and well hydrated will detox itself at a cellular level. I dont have a colon, so a traditional cleanse is not required.
Secondly I blend rather than Juice (ie i use the pulp/skin and everything).
Thirdly i use mostly veg, with a bit of 'neutral' fruit to balance. Ie i use advocado to make the smoothie thicker, apple (neutral) and banana (which actually a herb) to sweeten. I then add cucumber, kale, spinich and carrot for a health shot of vits and minerals.
The idea is that this also keeps me hydrated. the resulting sludge (i add a little water to get it to blend) is quite thick so stays in the gut longer, allowing for better absorption of both nutrients and water....or at least thats my theory. Im still trying it out to be honest.
again im J-pouch rather than K.
As a quick disclaimer, i did this for years prior to my ileostomy/J pouch too, so im used to it. Also you shouldn't mix fruit and veg in a smoothie as will give you stomach ache (fruit requires an alkaline balance to digest, veg requires an acidic balance, taking the 2 together doesnt work. Theres a science to this, but bananas are a herb, so go with fruit or veg, apple is neutral ph so again can crossover. I think advocado is the same, or i may have made that up, either way i can tolerate it. Carrot, celery and tomato can crossover too, as can cucumber AFAIK. for others im afraid you would have to research
hi everyone thanks for all your responses, just to clear up, im not detoxing just want to clean everything out, I have eaten and drank way to much over xmas, So I have a active blend, However apples and pineapple make me really watery and can cause major bum burn.....so was just wondering what everyone else's experiences are. I just looking to lose a bit of weight but do it in a good way, as to get the goodness of spinage etc, Many thanks all
Ok, got it, If you want to 'lighten up' post holidays then add a bit of animal protein to the mix...meaning have your juices and smoothies etc but also have about 3 ounces of protein 3xs/day too...meaning a chicken breast or grilled turkey or an egg...the protein protects your from losing muscle mass at the same time as allowing you to lose the weight...and prevents you from having a 'rebound effect' or sudden weight gain once you start eating again.

The problem with juice fasts for weight loss is that after 24-48hrs your metabolism starts to lower itself and once you eat again the weight comes back on twice as fast...
