Hi Friends: I have sought advice from this site over the years and am back again looking for some guidance. I had my original collecting/jpouch surgery in 1998 at 17 and am now 44. Over the years since, I’ve had many obstructions for which been hospitalized for or been able to work out partials at times at home even. I’ve had adhesion removal and a sphincterotomy over the years. When I had a myomectomy and later a c-section in 2020, they both led directly to onstructions, for which I had additional hospitalizations days.
Most recently. I had a hysterectomy that ended up also becoming an adhesion removal surgery due to my bowels being so distended and adhesioned. This was probabaly the roughest surgery situation— I was in hospital for four weeks and it was touch and go. Not my usual just get an NG tube and wait it out for situation.
So here’s my question-I realize that I am older now and I’ve also got a kid now. What are things that folks do for longevity for this condition? I don’t think I can emotionally handle a hospitalization every two years. Do folks with jpouch live long? Can we go into our 50s and 60s and expect that we can get away with not having problems? What steps do folks take for pouch health in their 40s plus? I know we can prevent obstructions per se, but is there anything we can do to minimize complications from rearing?
