Hi, after 2.5 years in remission from my severe UC while on Humira (5 years before that super sick on Remicaid), I relapsed after the birth of my second daughter. After a rough 3 months on high doses of Prednisone, I was in a brief remission on Simponi. Now I have relapsed and just found out that I am (surprise!) pregnant again. I am not feeling optimistic about meds working for me considering my track record with the disease, and I may have come to the point where i must consider surgery in order to care for my family. I desperately need the best j pouch surgeon recommendations as I have received poor GI in the past, which almost killed me. I have a hard time trusting doctors now, though I do have a regular GI I like. I live in SC but would travel if necessary for the best doctors. Although, obviously if you have had the surgery you know what kind of travel distance is feasible post-op. I would love to have that information as well. Thank you!

congrats on the pregnancy. but I wonder do you mean to have the surgery now? or after birth? I don't know of anyone in SC but I know a patient who is quite happy with her surgery in NC. or how close are you to the Mayo in FL? Cleveland Clinic is highly regarded as the jpouch mecca, as is Mayo Clinic. patient recovery varies and my surgery was too long ago for me to opine intelligently about time, perhaps others might have more input. good luck.
My surgeon in Charlotte, NC is great. I'd recommend him in an instant. Dr. Douglas Rosen. Top notch, great guy and great surgeon!
Jcaw, sorry about your past GI experiences. I don't know if you are able and willing to make a trip to ny for surgery but my doc at Mt. Sinai did all four of my surgeries, laparoscopically and well. There's no situation that he hasn't seen. PM me if you'd like and I'll share my info. Congrats on your pregnancy!
My trip to the emergency room in February 2015 turned into removal of my colon. I never had any UC symptoms so this was a shock to me. My final surgery for take down (jpouch) was 4/28/15 and feel I was blessed with having Dr. Reza Rahbar at UNC Hospital as my surgeon. I have had no real issues other than the normal things you can read on this site. Thus far, I have found that diet is key.
I guess I should have included that UNC Hospital is in Chapel Hill, NC. lol
