Question I had my J-pouch since 1998 , im having blockages once every year or year n half. It seems like when I eat too much or the wrong foods is when it gets blocked for 10-12 hours. I drink warm water with Epsom salt when I am feeling im getting blocked. I use a heat pad and drink hot coffee, it still takes 10-12 of extreme pain. When i go to the ER and they give me that pain medicine, I go within 5-10 minutes after. They run ct scans and some drs tell me its scar tissue in the small intestine. But this last time the Er Doctor says he sees no blockages?? last week. So have any of you J-pouchers had any scar tissue at the entrance to your pouch ??

I have had my J-Pouch for 22 years now and have had multiple blockages with 2 resulting in operations. These all happened within the first 6 or 7 years. I didn't know exactly what the blockages were caused from until the surgeon asked me if I had any raw carrots after my final blockage. Of course I had eaten an entire bag of small carrots...

That being said, the couple of early blockages I had were quickly eliminated as soon as I was given some dilaudid to relieve the pain. I assumed it was because my insides could relax a bit once the pain was gone and allowed me to go to the bathroom.

On a side note - Whenever they did an Xray, nothing ever showed up, just a huge white mass of nothingness...

Just my .02....grr

GRR456, You have just solved my problem, I only have scar tissue in the area of the small intestine where they cleaned out in 2010. Its back, and I eat Grilled fish, puddings jello's , no fiber as it blocks me up, even soda crackers. Lactaid ice cream/ when I overeat, I can feel a gas bubble and small pain when food goes thru this area. Funny thing I get blocked at least once a year and im very picky about what I eat. When I get blocked, I immediately take  warm water with epsom Salt  and put a heating pad on that spot and well as drink hot coffee. Well after 10 hrs of horrific pain I goto the ER and as soon as they give me a pain med that kills the pain and relaxes that spot im flooding the bathroom and totally  a new person. with the exception of 3 days of  a irritable ingestion and a liquid diet. I have NO COLON at all , just enough to reattach in my rectum. Thanks You so much after years and years of horrific pain.

My J-pouch was done in 1998, in 2004 I had scar tissue grow over top of my small intestine chocking it off inside body cavity. they removed it 15 days in hospital and 38 staples. In 2010 blockages again, this time the small intestine area where they reconnected the intestine from colostomy bag. same thing 15 days in hospital. now its starting again, the blockages are pain form he!!
