Hello All,

I don't know if this is allowed or not but here goes ... I have a new boyfriend ;-) he is the best and has had a j pouch for 20 years. He is having horrible burn problems and has tried so many things .. we are sorted for a Dr appt with his Surgeon ( in NYC) tomorrow and i am hoping he doesnt have problems ( UC ) in the cuff. Are there others here that are the significant others to J pouchers? When i told him about ths forum he was like ..."wow" He is old school i guess. I have been trolling this site since he told me about his journey. Much Love to all you and what you have all been through.

Questions--

He eats small meals all day which I think is a mistake because it keeps him going all day and also i feel that makes more stomach acid because every time he eats that is the body's reaction. Am I wrong?

He eats a lot of sugar which i think can create yeast in the burn area.. he s putting on a lot of numbing creams because the pain is so bad but i don't think he is healing.

I am trying to be a supportive as i can without hovering... Any advice to a Mrs. J-Poucher ;-)

He also has other autoimmune problems... restless legs and lyme

Hello, Lisa K.  Too much sugar causes me problems. So do leafy vegetables and any type of fiber. Would he try taking a probiotic twice a day to help repopulate his intestine with good bacteria? Has he ever been diagnosed with pouchitis and given antibiotics? Also, eating spicy or acidic foods (tomato sauce, curry, citrus fruits, BBQ sauces) can burn on the way out. Small meals spaced throughout the day is better not only to balance his blood glucose, but also for the stomach acids to have something to work on. A portable bidet squeeze bottle (Amazon) or an inexpensive attachment for the toilet, will help so much to soothe the burn area if he uses it after each and every bathroom trip. It's an inexpensive treatment that helps so much. I hope the doctor visit will result in a solution.

Thank You much ! The dr said he thinks he has a stricture so he is going into the hospital next week to have it all checked out. Yes he has had puchitis in the past but right now the pouch is moving slow because there is a narrowing which he had once before. The burn is bad .. poor thing! But on the plus side we got engaged today !

I have an emptying issue that makes it hard for me to eat "right" so unfortunately my diet sucks too and I experience butt burn. When I do I put a spoon of baking soda on water and drink it. Baking soda is supposed to help correct ph levels. Also just order a product to help balance ph levels. Am trying that next. But baking soda or organic brags Apple cider vinegar .. Works for me.

Congratulations!!!  I forgot to mention I too have an anal structure  and it results in all the symptoms you are experiencing. I often have a hard time emptying the pouch and have chronic  pouchitis due to it. I'm looking st having surgery for the stricture  after the holidays. Please report back what doctor finds. Strictures unfortunately can make life miserable.
