Hello everyone so today I received the letter my operation will take place on June the 24th I'm excited yet nervous... I have not been dealing well with the end ileo and have had skin issues and body image issues as well. The last time I saw my surgeon he said he will do a 1 stage so I wont be having the loop ileo has anyone here had it done 1 stage ? If so what was your experience.
I had a true one-stage procedure (I never had an ileostomy). Yours sounds like a two-stage procedure, which is more commonly done. The surgeon warned me that it doesn’t tend to reduce overall hospital days, but since I was an airplane ride away from the hospital I considered it well worth avoiding an extra surgery. I did have a miserable post-op ileus that lasted 10 days, but that can happen even with more surgical stages. I’m glad I did it that way, but there is a greater chance of leaking at the anastomosis if the new pouch is placed into service immediately.
