I had my take down surgery in 2010 Diagnosis Ulcerative Colitis. Four surgeries in 6 months with multiple complications. Gastro tells me I have a poor functioning pouch I have problems digesting food so my diet is limited. I do protein shakes and vitamins to try to get the best nourishment. I have had multiple dilations because of scar tissue.
My surgeon would like to operated to remove scar tissue but does not give me any guarantee that it will help but my gastro is against it because of problems I had during my past surgeries. I love reading every ones post it helps me deal with what I go thru and to know that I am not alone. I love to read the success stories because it gives me hope that one day I will too have a success story. I am 65 years old and wanting to go for a second opinion but nervous about another surgery because of what my doctors are telling me. Does anyone have any advice. Thank you for listening Grace

Hi Grace,
I'm sorry I don't have any real advice as I am just not familiar with what you need done. I do think a second opinion would be a good idea. Do you trust your surgeon? Perhaps another surgical opinion. I know from my own personal experience that some GI docs are opposed to surgery. But if there is a good chance the scar tissue removal will help, I would consider it. I understand your apprehension though. Tough decision. Good luck!
I'm kind of in the same boat as you these days. My last surgery was in 2008 and after a few initial hiccups, things were relatively quiet for a few years until last year. I've had about a dozen hospitalizations for bowel obstructions in the last year and a half, which are all in the same place and likely due to adhesions. I've got a surgical consult too, though I'm wary of doing surgery to remove scar tissue, as that surgery would cause more scarring, I would think. Second opinions are always a good idea when it comes to surgery, in my opinion.
