Good luck UCW, if I recall correctly you are at Mount Sinai Medical Center and they will take good care of you. Keep us posted. BTW when you do your postsurgical walks go down to look at that atrium (if it is still there). It is something I recall from my own postsurgical walks.

I am guessing you are in the ICU right now?

The surgery went well according to the surgeon and I was totally wiped out for the whole day. The pain wasn't bad at all but I am yet to get any walking done. Day 2 mission - walk walk walk and hope that the intestines wake up.

The IVs and drains are coming off one by one and I think I should be heading home tomorrow. I still get sharp shooting pains in the stomach randomly. Is this normal given it's only been six days since surgery? I don't think that's incision pain though.

Can't wait to get home and move on!! Thank you once again for all the wonderful support and advice!!

If they just made the J-Pouch, you should expect sharp, random pains for days. . .I think I had them up to 4 weeks. They became less frequent and less painful over time.

I had no idea what a "major" surgery was until they created a J-Pouch.

Go slow, go easy, and be patient with yourself.

Wow Dog, diagnosis to takedown in less than a year... and I thought I was fast!

Maybe we should talk and be buddies. I had my J pouch built on Jan 15th. I had a blockage on the 21st and had to go back to the hospital but am home now. Walking some and antipating staples and road coming out on Tuesday. I know that will very painful but try to say it is just one more step closer to the takedown. My takedown should be first or second week of April. I am terrified of the recovery process, leaking, butt burn, embarrassment. How are you feeling ? Do you have someone at home who helps you with daily things ?
