Is J pouch butt burn temporary

Like most things it's different for everyone. I stopped needing to use cream for BB after only a few months, some people use it for years.

In my case BB was right after takedown and lasted until about the 9-12 month mark post takedown. At that point my body must have self-adjusted the pH because I have never had a problem since, except very occasionally during a flare of pouchitis.

It was temporary for the first 8 months with the new pouch; I used calmoseptine, Ilex and sitz baths to help with the discomfort. Now I usually only get it during my cycle and when I eat really spicy food, which I normally avoid for the most part.

Maria, if you do a search for "fistula" or "RV fistula" under the Find drop down, you'll find lots of posts on that subject. Many of us have had or are dealing with them and are happy to help.

Strange, I never even had BB the first time around!! Since then I've dealt with it occasionally, off and on, and generally only for a short period of time. (Usually the source was an infection or something else out of the ordinary.) Some struggle with it a lot more.

I have it A LOT right now, having just recently had a pouch advancement. So bad at the beginning that I had blisters in places blisters should never be... But with proper care and attention, it is slowly getting better. Not fun to deal with at all.

I forgot to apply the barrier cream today and I'm happy to say, at four months post surgery exactly today, I don't have any burn. I feel quite happy about this and hope it will provide some encouragement for you as well. (I should also add that three days ago I drank two glasses of red wine and had quite the burn the next day) Who knows?

Over 10 years since takedown and I get BB every now and then if I've eaten something which causes it. For me, it seems to be short lived and gone when the culprit food is pretty much completely out of me. I only use a barrier cream when it gets bad......a couple of days at the most.

I'm four years out from surgery and still need to use my Calmoseptine. I would say I need it 3 or 4 times a week. It just depends on what I eat.

There are several barrier creams on the market, the operative ingredient is zinc oxide. The % zinc oxide ranges from 10-40%. The 40% is a thicker cream that provides the greatest barrier and the 10% is creamier and wipes off the easiest.

I tended to use the barriers that were around 15% or so. Because the 40% kind of is like caulk and does not easily wipe off.

There are many brands, A&D, Desitin, Balmex, Walgreens.......

If you are in a place where you can get Sudocrem, it also works great as a barrier, but also helps to heal up the blisters and such.

Thanks a lot. I will remember that! I haven't use my rectum for 4 years probably that is why my food intake shoul be lesser and wityh extra care. I hope as time goes by it will go back to normal.

Good for you. I am using aquaphor right now and Canasa precribed by my doctor. It seems like it is helping. I've been using it for two days now.

It has been about 9 months for me and I still occasionally get BB and terrible itch. It is nothing I can't manage with Calmoseptine and Cottonelle wipes. Usually it is caused by something I have eaten. I can no longer tolerate citrus or tomatoes.

I do not eat veggies yet except beans and carrots cause I am scared to experiment yet. but today, I had tomatoes jus the juice of it so far it was okay.
I am craving for salad greens but according to my diet I am on lw residue diet. I will wait for another 3 months to start eating veggies! Yesterday mny friend offered me tofu with cheese and tomato sauce and mushrooms. I had tofu , it is perfect no watery stools.
Thai is my first food aside from meat, fish from being in the hospital for awhile.
It was such a relief to be out of there. Imagine 3 1/2 months from hospital and Rehab.....
I am new but I tried the anti fungal cream with aquaphor one time I ha an itch, it really helps!!!
