I'm having to take iron supplements (ferrous sulphate) for iron deficient anaemia but I find that they give me digestion problems, it makes my poo more runny and it burns a bit more. Does anyone experience similar problems?
Yes, iron is hard on the system and I think most of us have experienced this. I stopped taking the iron pills and switched to a liquid iron which seemed to agree with me more.
I currently take Life brand ferrous fumerate (generic brand, coated for stomach protection). I was previously taking slow Fe and palafer but those were causing me problems in that I had some upper GI discomfort shortly after taking them.
Now, I take my iron at bedtime, as suggested by the pharmacist, and I don't really notice any digestive problems, except for the fact that it quite often turns my stool jet black, which is usually noticeable on my first BM the next morning.
