would instant messaging be a good addition to this site? sometimes i just need to feel like someone who understands us is really there in real time.

Maybe. I can't speak for others, but it is all I can do to keep up with emails and PMs. I'd never get anything done if I was doing IM too. It would be like being on the phone all the time.
You know, you can PM a member and set up IM on the side by exchanging AIM IDs or whatever. You could also set up a time to meet in the chat room. That is still there.

wiggles, if we did have IM, I would prefer that it be an "opt in" feature. To be honest, I check this site as much as I can, which currently is about 3-4 times per week, but there are days at a stretch where I'm just not able to get online long enough to read the recent posts, and if I had IM I'd feel bad "ignoring" people that I couldn't respond to immediately.
Jan's suggestion of using the chat is a good idea. Maybe you could PM those you wish to speak to and set up a mutual time to meet?

You can tell who is on if you go to the main menu, it lists our ID's from left to right up below the sites logo. I can see you are on now wiggles.
