I have started having trouble with sleep at night. No not overly stressed, semi-retired. J pouch for 10 years with mild high blood pressure and the UC version of arthritis. Any suggestions for getting a good nights sleep?

What works for me (usually) is focused breathing. Focus only on your breathing, saying a word - in your head - when breathing in, and a word when breathing out. I keep it simple with "in" and "out". It's a type of meditation.
Hi, Dr. B
I had a vitamin d deficiency after my surgery and my GP put me on a supplement of 2,000 IU per day in tablet form. I don't know if it is related, but since taking the vitamin d I have been sleeping like a log. I have been an insomniac for many years or so, averaging a few hours' sleep per night. Not good for health. Try vitamin d -- if nothing else, your body will get a vitamin it needs everyday.
I must say I never slept well when I had a pouch.
It's mind bending when you cannot get enough sleep.
But am not saying count sheep because that never worked for me.
One thing I found that works for me is to recite something over and over in my head. I fall right asleep. I don't think of the stressful things from the day. My mind tries to but I force my self to recite what I have in my mind over and over. It works for me. It can be anything you want. I won't say what I recite but it doesn't matter what you use. Just say it over and over in your head. If your mind drifts to the days or upcoming things go back to reciting it.
Just a thought. Hope it helps.
Richard.
Have a look on the Internet for things regarding "sleep hygiene". You need to practise good sleep hygiene to help keep your body healthy. There are many exercises and suggestions to battle insomnia. I have to rely on medication to get any sleep and there is nothing wrong with that either.
