I have a loop ileostomy (hate it- leaks and bleeds all the time) and a "healing" j pouch. Some of my output leaks into the new, healing j pouch instead of going into the ostomy. I understand this can be normal, except in my case it is approx. every 15 minutes (& I have no continent control over it) & has not diminished at all since surgery 2 months ago...MY QUESTION: is this a sign of possible incontinence after reattatchment? Because if it is, I don't even want to get reattached...now I understand after reattatchment there is temporary incontinence but I am asking re permanent incontince. Is this a red flag that I won't have continence with the new j pouch?
(The surgeon said he thought it would be less by now...also he said my rectal muscles are really strong- that if there is an issue it's more scar tissue related...)
Please advise- desperate for any insights!

MaryMom,
Now might be a good time to looking into some Pelvic floor exercises to get the whole zone back in shape...you have carried kids plus major abdominal surgery and scar tissue...some times a little training with a physio therapist and practice, practice & practice some more until those poor, overworked, overstressed muscles are back in shape.
I cannot guarentee that the results will be perfect but they should be much better.
I do them sitting on the sofa, in the car, while cooking...I just integrate them into my life on a daily basis to keep things nice and tight down there.
It couldn't hurt? Could it?

ps...that stupid gunk that pours out of your bottom has a mind of its own...wear a pad and do not let it get to you! Things can be very diffferent after takedown.
ps. I have a k pouch but it was done in 3 parts so I do remember all of that leakage.
