Dear all

im going through a rough period (well more rough than the usual rough!).

Basically I was on holidays last week and ate and drank something that gave me a lot of diarrhea that night. I don't usually have diarrhea so thought it was food poisoning. In the next two days it progressed, I had watery diarrhea, a fever, shivering, body wide pain etx. I couldn't leave the house really and went to hospital for fluids.

Two days later this morphed into intense pouch pain, like knives moving into my pouch followed by extreme urgency about every 30 mins and still watery diarrhea....I was thinking this gastro bug has now triggered pouchitis! I never suffer from pouchitis so not too familiar with it though, but pretty sure this qualified!

A few doses of Rifaxamin later, the pouch pain and urgency subsided but watery diarrhea has not let up.

It's now Day 8.. Of not eating much and feeling terrible. Now when food moves through my intestine it's AGONY it feels like I'm trying to digest knives and stones.. It's also not localised in my pouch now but in my abdomen I think so I'm really confused about whether this bug (if it was a bug or just pouchitis flare all along) has made my intestines inflamed or something.

When the pain hits, I'm doubled over and then go to the loo and it improves.. There's a constant heavy bad feeling in my intestine though.

Has anybody got any thoughts? Doc took a stool sample and said continue with Rifaximin 400mg twice a day.

Ps I never had active CD in small bowel.

Thank for listening ...

So it turns out I have Campylobacteriosis poisoning from campylobacter bacteria. I got this in a restaurant on holidays- one souvenir I did not want to bring home! This is not fun at all ....!!! Severe diarrhea going on 13 days now and cramps which apparently are part of it. Also some pouch inflammation although the infection is known to cause intestinal inflammation in and of itself. I think these things may hit us harder than most , especially when immunosuppressed! Thanks Jeane and Scott for your comments
