Hi everyone. I haven't had j pouch surgery yet as I am only in week 4 of recovery from my illeostomy. I have had everything removed with a temp illeo ready for pouch surgery in 6 months. I was due on 2 days ago. Still no sign of period but last night I woke up at 2am in agony, still no sign of period. I'm still in pain this morning. Could this be because my period is coming? Bag is still functioning and it's not watery.  I've had such a bad time during recovery. Just as I started to feel better I got post op wound infection. It's been a rough ride, as soon as I start to feel normal something else happens

Hi Katerina,

Yes, my periods got worse post-op, sometimes disappearing for up to 6 months with what I called 'dry periods' meaning that I had all of the pain, cramping and bloating but no period coming at all...but after a while 3-9 months they came back.

That does not mean that I was not in pain once I got them...much worse than pre-pouch.  I did not really suffer from my periods too much before my pouch but once I got it it was hell...a very, very heavy feeling low down in my abdomen, like it was full of rocks, horrible low back pain and a deep ache.

Heat helped a lot, especially on the low back...so did hot baths.

My pouch would be upset too and the rare headaches that I got would be around then.

If the agony continues, without your period coming you may want to ask your obgyn to give you an ultrasound to see if anything is going on in there.

Just because we have had abdominal surgery does not mean that 'normal' problems cannot happen...so check things out...I had a lot of ovarian cysts about 10-15yrs post pouch creation and they were horribly painful...I think that they are very common among us (I could be wrong)....never hurts to have it checked out.
