Hello, I'm new to this group and thought I'd see if anyone out there has some suggestions. I had my 3rd takedown surgery a year ago and it has been a struggle to adapt. I got a couple of scopes done probably about 6 and 8 months ago by now and there wasn't pouchitis. I do get pain on and off throughout my abdomen but as time goes by it seems to get less and less which is good. The main problem I'm getting pretty consistently is intestinal spasms, rumbling, noises, gas sometimes, bloating sometimes etc. There is not usually much pain involved, but it is exhausting and can come close to driving me crazy at times because I can feel it every time my intestine rumbles. It feels like the spasms are up higher and towards the middle of my small intestine rather than lower down. It settles at times probably about 40% of the time where the other 60% it is in spazz mode. I've really simplified my diet and can't seem to find any patterns but will continue to investigate and probably start writing down everything I eat. The last time I saw the specialist at the end of July 2016, I was having more pain as well that seemed to be nerve related. He wanted me to take Amitriptyline 25mg once a day for 2 months to see how it responds. I'm not the biggest fan of taking drugs like this so I have hesitated to start on it, since I have done miserably on many others in the past. I wanted to see if there is anyone out there with a similar problem that has benefitted from taking amitriptyline? I have read that it can calm down the bowels and deal with IBS symptoms in some cases. I dealt with UC for about a decade before these surgeries now it seems I have IBS or IPS or whatever you want to call it. The antispasmodic buscopan doesn't really work and I don't feel like taking tylenol 3's all the time to try and control it like the GP suggested. I have had problems with emptying due to tightness in the last inch of rectum that is left, throughout this adapting process also, which may be nerve related. Just trying to get my life back here as I'm sure many of you can understand. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks -Dylan
