I currently have a loop ileostomy, with reversal surgery scheduled for mid-April. Because I'm not technically a functioning j-poucher yet, maybe this isn't the place to post this, but I wondered if anyone had some suggestions or had experienced the same thing.

I generally eat marshmallows 15-20 minutes before changing my bag. Apparently I overdid the marshmallows last night (around 30 mini marshmallows) and have had pain, cramping, and very little output all day. I had no idea that marshmallows could cause a blockage, even if it's a minor one which I hope will resolve soon. My surgeon said to stick with clear liquids today to help things move along.

I've heard that marshmallows are a j-poucher's best friend. Does anyone have any advice or input about a) how to resolve this issue or b) general guidelines for using marshmallows with a j-pouch?

Thanks!

I took them all the time before my reversal for exactly the same reason. You probably overdid it. I read somewhere that Grape Juice helps break up a blockage.  I do have a blockage after my reversal and it was awful... hospitalized for 3 weeks so you have to be very careful!!! Good Luck! Hope you're feeling better!!!
