I need GI recommendation for the California East Bay Area

A good GI in san francisco would be the center for colorectal surgery mt zion. And a good doctor there is Dr. Varma . There is actually a few Doctors there. I had my surgery done there. And not any complications. I no they have great experience there because I've talked to many patients there with j pouches. They seem to be happy when they visit there doctors like I am. I hope you find someone. Goodluck.

And also another doctor was Dr. Johnathan Terdamen.

Thanks Stone - Terdamen looks like a decent bloke. If I dont get any other suggestions closer to home I will check him out.

And Dr. Varma and Dr. Terdamen are husband and wife so you might get a sort of 'twofer.'

Scary - one GI at a time is usually more than enough....

Maybe I will give these guys a try before I fly to 'the master' Bo Chen in Cleaveland Ohio...

One is a surgeon and the other is a GI so you probably wouldn't be seeing them at the same time. I've seen Dr. Terdamen but I've never seen Dr. Varma. But I would imagine that since they're married they may bounce things off one another.

I like my GI doc, Dr. Szpakowski, in Fremont, but I have Kaiser. So, unless you are a Kaiser patient, probably not going to work.

Thanks Jan. I'm with Etna -so no dice unfortunately as Fremont would be perfect.

I have a scope coming up with him soon, and if I can remember, I'll ask him if he has any recommendations for southern Alameda County or North Santa Clara County. Docs move in and out of the system all the time, but they tend to move in more than out (since they can focus on patient care and not have to screw around with insurance stuff). I just learned a few years ago that Kaiser requires all their docs to become board certified within a year of hire. When I had my cardiac cath procedure, the entire team was Stanford trained.

But, you guys don't have a Kaiser hospital out there, just the clinic in Pleasanton, I think, so it can be difficult.

I had my Jpouch surgery done by doc Kim in dec 2003. He is in Concord, CA. Do a google search on Bay Area Colon & Rectal Surgeon. There site will come up.
