Hi guys,
i just wanted to share my news maybe it will give someone a little hope if they've gone through the same thing...so ive had my ileostomy for just over 2 and a half years, just recently i went to an appointment at st marks hospital and after an internal examination i was told that my muscles were not strong enough to have the pouch done and that they thought there was a defect of the anal sphincter due to childbirth...that was all about 6 weeks ago since then i have been doing pelvic floor exercises and also have had some biofeedback sessions...last monday i saw the surgeon that i had hoped would be doing the j pouch procedure for me, and he gave me some AMAZING NEWS!! Firstly he told me that the defect they though was there wasnt there after doing an anal ultrasound they told me everything was intact and good! Also, now i cant say if this was due to the pelvic floor exercises, biofeedback or just all down to god, he told me that my muscles are normal, normal resting and squeeze pressure! This, all after being told 6 weeks ago that the muscles were so weak i probably would not have much control! Smiler im so happy and i hope this gives some hope to anyone going through the same or similar thing

Nice to see someone who is happy here.
Not that their are not others. Just good news always resonates well.
Congratulations. I hope all works well.
Keep up the exercises it can only do good for you in the future.
Sounds like you were determined to make it work.

Good luck!!! I had my J-pouch surgery in February (2014) with ostomy reversal On June 7th. So I'm 5 weeks out and I couldn't be more pleased. Not to say things are perfect, they aren't; but they are better than I expected and improving every day. The worse part is the dreaded butt burn. I have had many sleepless nights. Invest in a bidet. I just got a $15 portable one and it was the best $15 ever spent. I plan to investigate the cost of installing an attachment to my toilet.
Congrats and yes good things do happen to most people that get a J Pouch. Only 5 percent of those that get it say it has not improved their lives. My jpouch reversal was last October and I can honestly say that unless someone reminds me I dont even remember I have one. It feels so good to be normal again. I eat what I want, excercise and run like I used to, no problem. Hopefully you have the same success that I have.
Thank you guys! Feels so great to have everyone to talk to on this forum. I hope my j pouch works out, and i hope you all have great success with your pouches too Smiler

My surgeon recently told me he wont be doing a mucostectomy on me... should i be worried? My resting and squeeze pressures came back as 'normal' but i think there is some worry that my spincter muscles were not that strong but its come back as normal, but i think not as excellent...so the surgeon explained to me that with mucostecomy there is more chance of damaging the muscles and so he wont be doing the mucosectomy... i worry because i have alot of bleeding from the back passage even know with the ileostomy in place and i just wonder if there is still the 2-5cm of rectal cuff there might that aggrivate it all again?? :/

Any advice would be so much appreciated

Sally
Hey guys,

I just received a letter from my surgeon and attached to it was a copy of the letter he sent over to my doctor with his decision for surgery. On the letter he has written his decision to do the j pouch procedure, but he has also written that i have multiple hernias, on the incision and at the stoma site also :/ he has written he wont be using mesh and that due to this the failure rate of the repairs is higher...does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this...because my surgery was emergency i am literally sliced open from just under the breastbone right down to the bottom and i am literally covered in hernias!
