Lately, I keep losing weight because I can't keep any food in me. I think my sodium is low because I started craving salt. I always have nausea and I have gastroparesis. Which means my stomach can't empty as well as it could before the surgeries. I was told that people that have this kind of surgery end up having gastroparesis. If I eat something my stomach doesn't like, it makes me throw up. I also can't eat too much or I'll throw up. I have no appetite, but I had this problem before my surgeries though. Before my surgery I weighed 224 pounds, now after both surgeries I weigh 174 pounds. I also don't have energy and I'm tired no matter how much sleep I get.Is it normal to lose so much weight? Does anybody else have gastroparesis? Did anybody end up having gastroparesis because of these surgeries? Is it normal to be so tired and not have energy? I also wonder if I'm going to keep losing weight.

A "normal" result from J-pouch surgery is a healthy appetite and good stomach function. J-pouches don't really affect the stomach, but poor GI function overall probably helps persuade people in some circumstances to have a colectomy, in the hope that it will clear everything up. I hope you can find someone to help you with your gastroparesis!

When I was really sick with UC, I was given an appetite stimulant due to severe malnutrition and dehydration.  That as well as TPN helped me a lot.  I also had no appetite at all.  I would have to force myself just to eat a few bites and try to force down Boost.  You could always try it and see if it helps.  Good luck!
