i have had my j-pouch for 18 years. For the first few years I had a problem with slight leakage while out on walks. The acid/enzymes would get to the sensitive cheek skin and begin burning severely, like lemon juice on an open cut. Very painful. I was fortunate to switch to another colorectal doctor who gave me a wonderful solution that I want to share with this forum. I now carry with me a half dozen 100% cotton balls (jumbo size) at all times. After every BM I take one cotton ball, gently stretch it to 2" long and place it between the cheeks to absorb the small leakage before it can migrate to the sensitive cheek skin. Before the next BM, I just remove the ball and drop it into the toilet.
I just shared this technique with my sister who got her
pouch years before me. She had recently shared having the burning butt issue during walks. She has now had great success while using little cotton makeup squares. She also shared that women's clothes don't always have pockets for cotton ball storage. Her solution is to store her spare cotton squares in her bra!
i hope this helps folks out there to get around in comfort.
