How old were you when you got a Jpouch?

I was 28 and turned 29 the day before I was released. I was there for 2 weeks and then I had my take down surgery on my 30th birthday! All the nurses and doctors felt so bad they had balloons waiting for me when I woke up from surgery!!!

i was 60 when i got uc and 62 when i got jpouch..

Wow - lots of responses! :-)

So far 12 years old is the youngest and 63 is the oldest. Most common seems to be late 30's/early 40's, but interesting to see such a wide range.

It would be interesting to see what was the cause that
led to all your surgeries, ie: FAP, UC, LGD, ect. Just
wondering how many of us older folks did so becuse of
LGD.

I was 35yrs, (1986) when I was dig. with UC. Within a year I had to have a colectomy and jpouch fashioned has worked fairley well up to the last few years now have possibly CD and am on Pred. worked at first but I think it is now stopped. I had stopped smoking about 3 mos previous to getting ill in 1986 I had no problems with my insides up to that point. I mentioned this to my GP and he said there was no connection but when I said the same to my GI he actually said there has been studies that show that nicotine my play some part in protecting you from IBD. Has any one else had this happen to them. I often wonder if I had started smoking again if it would have reversed the disease. Shawne

Shawne - quite a few people hear experienced the same thing - symptoms cropping up after quitting smoking. Here's a thread about it. Do a search here on smoking - it's been discussed quite a bit.

But I don't think that warrants taking it up again. You might want to try the patch to see if that helps at all.
