Hello again, I posted a couple weeks ago and am back with updates and questions. :-) I've seen and talked to several doctors in Germany and they all seem to be of the opinion that I will need to have my valve operated on. There are two surgeons in Germany who know how to do the K-Pouch, only problem is, I have a BCIR. Both have told me not to worry, they think they can handle fixing the valve but if they can't, they can build a new K-Pouch. One even suggested he could fix me up with a J-Pouch. I will be having a series of tests next week to determine exactly what went wrong (I couldn't insert my cath and had to have it done endoscopically in the hospital).
Actually, the doctor who told me he could give me a J-Pouch tried to do it twice before and failed. That means, I've had two failed j-Pouches and now have a BCIR. I know we have a lot of small intestine but it's not endless... How many times can pouch surgery be performed?
I'm really afraid they are going to screw up my BCIR. At the moment I'm living with a 28 FR Foley catheter inserted in my pouch and I suppose I can continue like that for a while longer but not indefinitely. It sort of defeats the point of having a continent pouch if I have a rubber tube hanging off my belly.
