I’m about 8 months post takedown and still using Ilex cream after a bowel movement. I don’t use it all the time, but probably half. Do you ever get to the point where you don’t need it anymore? I’ve tried going without it but it makes my butt really sore by the end of the day/evening.

Everyone is different. From what I’ve read here I’d guess that most people eventually stop completely - I certainly did, perhaps a year or two after my surgery. Years later I got a bidet, and I’ll admit that I now find dry-wiping (when I’m traveling) irritating. It’s not the poop causing the irritation, though, at least for me so many years later.
I rarely, if ever, need to use a barrier cream. (15 years post takedown) When I do it is just for a day. Keeping the anal area super clean is the key to my comfort. I, too, use a bidet at home. When I'm out and about I "wing it". Best wishes!
Cool. So there’s hope that I won’t have to use it forever? I have found I can god with regular toilet paper and stuff once or twice a day- or if I’m in a pinch while out of the house or not at work. I hope my skin will toughen up though. I found out this weekend I’m not a fan of Doritos. I mean, I am, but my butt, unfortunately, is not!
Don't think you will have to give up Doritos for life! What bothers us today doesn't necessarily bother us forever! If it does......slather up with a barrier cream and indulge! It will be worth the effort! I haven't given up any food or drink. I just prepare!
Bubba,
I'm 6 wks out and rarely use creams. I do use wet wipes.
