How long does it usually take your doctor to get back to you when you call in with an issue?

Reason I ask: I had a scope 16 days ago and was told pathology results would only take a couple days.... I emailed through our online health portal early last week to follow up, allowed a couple business days for response and didn't get one. Finally a put in an urgent call to the nurse first thing Friday and didn't get a call back. I'm getting really frustrated because I've been having inflammation in my pouch and 8 months pregnant. Saw my OB this week and I have barely gained weight and my baby is measuring really small - I really need to get symptoms under control so I can so some serious weight gain this last month. Should I bug the emergency on-call doctor?

Usually I get a response in a couple of days. Perhaps your doctor is on vacation. Still, I would think the advice nurse should tell you that and give you the option to speak with whoever is covering for him while he is gone. Sometimes messages just get lost too.

I would call back and explain the urgency and ask to speak to anyone if you doctor is not available.

I put in another call yesterday and had my phone on me all day except for 15 minutes to do some laundry... and of course my dr. called me during that window. Ah well Murphy's law, eh?

Apparently my dr. did have the flu the last couple days but he apologized that I didn't at least hear from his PA. He told me when he's available today so he can get paged when I call back.

Since this is uncharacteristic for my dr., I assume it's a failure of the hospital system. Still frustrating though...
