Sometimes I eat it several times a day. It just depends on the situation. It usually returns the situation to relative normality in a few hours on one "dose" but sometimes it takes more.
Oh ok, so it stabilizes the system, which for you is not watery. Got it. I have been eating more soluble fiber to help keep my normal on the less watery side, but I haven't figured it out so that the consistency is perfect. The stools are never hard, but sometimes they're more difficult for my reconstructed, scarred inner muscles to contend with. I did the watery stool thing for years...I had no support or guidance and I was teaching in the classroom and never had time to worry about it. Pooping was definitely faster that way, but over time, I think I became a bit nutrient deprived since there was really no time for proper absorption. Also, my guts became floppy with such fast transit and of course, aging, and I started having more frequent partial bowel obstruction from them getting tangled up. After I started psyllium before each meal, the bowel obstructions stopped. I think it strengthened the muscles in the gut and made them less floppy. Also, my guts just felt better, like they had more structural integrity. None of these things are medical descriptions or verified by any doctor, it's just what I noticed.
