I was able to get back home again today following my first surgery
which was done on Tuesday, July 3rd up at UCSF. I was on the table for
five hours with three hours in pre-op afterwards. Was very nauseaous right
after I woke up but it all went rather well and the pain wasn't too bad.
My system woke up pretty quickly and liquid was moving into my ileostomy
by Thursday morning.

I've still got a drain in that I've got to deal with for the next week.
Lot's of watery output but no signs of infection or fever. The ileostomy
thing is taking some getting used to though and I'm already counting the
days to takedown. Thank you to everybody for your advice and I got myself
up and moving quickly and spent my days walking or sitting up out of bed
rather than laying around.

Dr. Varma said my colon was in really poor shape regardless of the LGD.
She told me the transverse colon was enflamed and bled every time she
touched it and it practically fell apart while she was removing it. She
said that it was time for it to go.

The plan now is to get the drain removed early next week with a followup
a week or so later that can hopefully be done over the phone if everything
holds together. Then at seven weeks back for xrays and to check for leaks
with takedown to be scheduled soon after if it looks good.

Congratulations on Step 1. The time between the first and second surgery go really fast. Just take really good care of your skin around your ostomy and have an ostomy nurse follow up with you if one is available. I came home with two drains, they are a pain (literally) but well needed. Keep Asking questions on this sight, I did and the knowledge I received here was invaluable! Take care.
congrats srf1! glad to hear you're home. sounds like you're doing great!

i am 7 weeks post-op surgery 1 today. i go for my pouchoscopy tomorrow and then will schedule a pouchogram 2 weeks from now. if all good, then schedule step 2.

holly is right, the time between the 2 surgeries does go fast. i can't believe i am 7 weeks post-op already. but i too am counting down the days until step 2. not really into the ostomy. if i had to live with it for the rest of my life, i could and would make it work. but i am looking forward to waking up after the 2nd surgery w/o this bag on my belly!

i almost had to have my drain stay in, but they put a pediatric ostomy pouch over the incision where the drain was and that was great. would just empty the pouch after it was full. had to wear that for a week. lucky me....2 bags for the price of 1...lol.

hope you continue to heal quickly.

peace,
mark
