I am getting ready for my takedown surgery, I am two months out of my JPouch creation. When I urinate, I feel like I lose control over my anus and a little fluid come out my butt. Essentially, I have to pee sitting down. Will that go away over time?

When you uriniate, everything is relaxed, so that makes stuff come out. I am 6 years out and whenever I urinate, most of the time I poop because everything is soo relaxed. A lot of people on this site say the same thing as well.
Since you are soo early, that is why you do not have much control. In the future you will most likely have control and choose to let everything out anyway like most of us on this site.
Totally normal

Doug, if all goes well you will eventually need to pee more often than you need to empty your pouch. It’s well worth practicing keeping these muscles under separate control, but it can take time and patience to get the hang of it. I’m not sure how much of this you can accomplish (if any) before takedown, because the sensations really are quite different once it’s poop instead of that slippery stuff you get (at the anus) when you have a loop ileostomy. Probably simple kegels are your best bet for now.
Thanks - gosh. I spend a lot of time second guessing my decision to go with the JPouch. But I must have been committed to have made the choice. I am just going through some tough times. Thanks for the support.

You are welcome! Keep asking questions, all of us have been through it, we are here for you, were family
Pretty soon you will be answering questions to the new J-pouchers I am a 6 year old veteran of the J-pouch and I still ask questions, questions are great! Just be open to learn and you will do great! As a matter of fact, you are great!
As someone with a sub-total colectomy and my jpouch constructed higher up above the sigmoid juncture of the remaining colon & subsequent full rectum intact and my pouch 19 years old now, i have always, always urinated and defecated together into the toilet and never separately.
Infact when there were active j-pouch meetings in down town philadelphia, 25-30 minutes from where i reside all of those attendees of the jpouch variety expressed they too urinate and defecate together because thats how it works usually.
My surgeon then also stated that this was like going to be the outcome. For me, there is a strong urge to urinate and defecate and when it comes on it comes on and i go to the toilet and do both together.

I’ve had my j-pouch 8 years and it took a good 18 months for it to operate well , the first 12 months were a steep difficult learning curve . I can pee whenever now standing up , and my pouch is mainly active in the evening .
I've had my pouch going on 3 1/2 years and I , unfortunately, cannot do one without the other.

Getting two things done at once to me is a blesssing.
thanks - it would be nice to have the ability to pee and poop independently- men’s bathrooms don’t have to many stalls - thanks
@Doug K, I've had my j pouch since the end of last winter, and I've been working on holding #2. I was struggling where I'd empty the jpouch, clean up, and then realize I'd forgotten to pee and had to start over. Anyway, I have made progress, and you will too. Like Scott said do kegels (you can google that for instructions). This training may also enable you to pass gas as well !
Thanks

It’s very early days for you Doug K , it will get easier . I was the exact same at your stage questioning what I had done . Takes time but you will see improvement over time .
Thanks

I had the same problem before takedown after 2nd surgery, i'm now 5 months past takedown, it's much better now, i only have this problem when my pouch is full.
Thanks! That is comforting
