I heard the J-pouch was invented around 1978 in England by Sir Alan Parks.

One thing they do not mention in that history is that Dr. Irwin Gelernt (my surgeon) studied under Dr. Nils Koch (creator of the K Pouch), did the first K Pouch in the USA and is considered one of the pioneers of J Pouches in the USA, although I do not think he did the first one.
Quite sure Dr. Donald Peck pioneered this surgery in San Jose CA. He did my surgery in May/80 and I was his 33rd patient. He passed away in 2011 aged 81.

@Lauren Of Emerald City---Yes--my mom and younger brother live in Orlando (Lake Mary). I visit from time to time. Some people refer to Seattle as the Emerald City, because we are so green here (thanks to the rain!). That is why I asked.

And hahahaa, that is soo cool! I got the name Emerald City because I am a BIG Wizard of OZ fan lol; I read all 15 books! Its my favorite book series ever!!!!
