hello everyone.

I had j pouch reversal back in February. All is good with the pouch, the scope was all clear etc.

I have noticed a tiny bulge around the stoma site for a while now, and I get a bit of discomfort when stool passes through. I think subconsciously its been bothering me for a while, but not enough for me to be too concerned.

Anyway I just saw the surgeon this morning and he confirmed its a very small hernia. We could leave it but he thinks its best to deal with it now as usually these things get worse over time and I am a very active person. I like to do boxing and weights at the gym.

obviously I won't be able to do this for 4-6 weeks after the repair surgery, but he thinks I should be able to go back to being fully active when recovered from the surgery.

anyone else have experience of this and did you have the repair or just leave it?

Not a stoma hernia, but an incisional hernia. Mine was rather large though. I had it repaired about a year post op. This was mostly due to the fact that I was on high dose prednisone at the time of my j-pouch surgery and I wanted to give my body the maximum time to reset after steroid withdrawal. The only problem I had was a persistent seroma, but it otherwise healed up fine. It was a mesh repair. It was supposed to be a day surgery, but my surgeon decided to keep me overnight anyway.

Everyone is different.  I had an incisional hernia repair near my stoma the day of take down.  I had to fix it again when I noticed a bulge near my stoma site in 2012.  I had it repaired with mesh.  The doctor said I should be able to do cartwheels after healing.  3 months later it came back and I didn't stress it at all.  3 years later I still have it.  It is quite large but what are they going to do?  Another mesh surgery?  I see how well that worked last time.  I know I have to handle it eventually but I expect it to fail again so I am in no hurry.
